Music acts that will brighten February 2016

MUMBAI: The month of February offers nothing special to look forward to, except the 'annual day of love' aka Valentine's Day for young hearts in love and the momentary pleasure of realising that the month does not have over 30 mundane days. February 2016 is a little different for the people in India. We narrow down six Festivals and their respective musical acts.

Boyce Avenue (Stage 42)

American pop rock band Boyce Avenue is set to make its first appearance on Indian soil. Boyce Avenue will perform for two Indian Festivals - Stage 42 and U/A - and the band will kick off its 'Be Somebody' with a performance at blueFROG in Mumbai for 'Stage 42' on 12 February, followed by Bengaluru on 13 February. The band will conclude its India tour with a performance in Delhi on 14 February for 'U/A'. Also known for its covers of popular tracks, the band has made a huge impact in the American music scene through its latest EP titled 'No Limits'.

Other artists at Stage 42 - Nucleya, Dualist Inquiry, Baba Sehgal, Naezy.

Farhan Akhtar (U/A)

Farhan Akhtar surely has not lost his love for live performances and his current stint of consecutive appearances for the past few months proves our point. The actor-singer has already kicked off the New Year with a gig in Pune earlier this month. Akhtar will perform at the 'U/A' festival on 13 February in Delhi. The 'U/A' festival is considered as India's first ever-family festival, that will involve kids, teenagers, parents and young adults.

Here's Akhtar's complete performance at Kala Ghoda Festival in 2014

'U/A' also hosts the American pop rock band Boyce Avenue this year.

Amjad Ali Khan (Kala Ghoda)

Sarod maestro Amjad Ali Khan will continue his 2016 tour with a pit-stop in Mumbai's Kala Ghoda Arts Festival. Amjad Ali Khan will perform with his sons- Ayaan Ali Khan and Aman Ali Khan on 7 February at this nine-day festival. Focused on diversity and quality, Kala Ghoda continues to stick to its tradition with artists from across genres and backgrounds to enthral attendees.

Need any other reason to attend the performance?

The 2016 edition of the festival also includes performances by Luke Kenny, Shankar Mahadevan, Samarpan, Sandhya Sanjana.

The Cat Empire (Sula Fest)

Okay, of all the February festivals, Sula Fest owns perhaps the most interesting and diverse line-up. With artists like Edu Imbernon, Luna City Express, Dub Inc, Made In Barcelona set to perform at Sula Vineyards in Nashik, it is the headlining act - The Cat Empire- that takes the cake. The ska/jazz band from Australia knows how to put up a show and the following video will just prove our point

Other acts at Sula - Dub Inc, Made in Barcelona, Aqua Dominatrix, Madboy/Mink

Girish and The Chronicles (India Bike Week)

Wondering where Rock, Blues and folk bands would be performing at this February? India Bike Week could be the festival you're looking for. The only festival built around bikers and music, India Bike Week hosts Girish and The Chronicles, Soulmate and The Other People. Known for the electrifyingly refreshing energy the band brings to its live performances, The Chronicles is rightly suited for the festival that revolves around the idea of energy, enthusiasm and youth. Girish and The Chronicles perform on the 19 February.

Soulmate (Blues), Paper Queen (EDM), Karl Hungus (Funk), Elektrovertz DJ are few of the other musicians to perform at the event.

Donn Bhat + The Passenger Revelator (The Lost Party)

The Ambient producer from Mumbai- Donn Bhat- made significant progress in the transformation of being 'an unknown' to 'one of the most promising artists' with the single 'Disco Disco', released last year. Donn Bhat's sound is unique at its best, and the ambient effect with a voice that so aptly compliments the venue, set at the picturesque Salter lake in the foothills of the Sahyadris. Donn Bhat + The Passenger Revelator would be performing on the last weekend of the month.

The line-up includes Karsh Kale Soundsystem, Spryk, OX7GEN, Kabir's Cafe, and others.

Not a frustrating February any more, is it?
