Sudeep Swaroop makes his Bollywood debut; composes five songs for 'X - Past is Present'

MUMBAI: Sudeep Swaroop has made his Bollywood debut by composing five songs for the upcoming Huma Qureshi starrer ‘X- Past is Present’. The film will have 11 directors, including Sudhish Kamath, Rajshree Ojha, Pratim D. Gupta, and Suparn Verna, amongst others. The lyrics of the songs have been penned by Pratyush Prakash, while Swaroop has also done the background score for the film.

“I had worked with Sudhish previously for his film ‘Good Night Good Morning’, for which I composed the music. This time when he told me about ‘X- Past is Present,’ he checked to see if I would be available to make the music for the film, and I agreed,” said Swaroop.

The composer revealed that the album will have various elements of music, and will feature both, new and established singers. The first track ‘Woh Kaun Thi’ has elements of jazz and rock, while the second track- ‘Oh Anjani’, sung by Swaroop, combines elements of rock and dubstep. “The song is sung by Divya Prasad, who will also be making her Bollywood debut with this film. She works for a corporate firm but has a great voice,” added Swaroop.

‘X- Past is Present’ also has a retro/cabaret number, which is sung by Usha Uthup, while the last track will have elements of deep house music. “I never wanted to compose something that is common and being done by everyone else, which is why I have combined various genres in the album,” he explained.

Swaroop’s interest in music came from his father, and he has grown up listening to Bollywood music. “I have also heard a lot of ghazals by Ghulam Ali and Jagjit Singh. But I never attended music classes to learn the craft. I am a self-taught musician,” he said.

Apart from film music, he is also planning to come up with a few singles that are composed and written by him. “Now that I have made my Bollywood debut, people are willing to work with me. I will release a single as soon as things fall in place,” he elucidated.

The film ‘X- Past and Present’ is slated to release on 20 November, 2015.
