Local pressure force Ladakh Confluence '10 to be called off

Opposition from the local parties, the All Ladakh Tour Operators Association (ALTOA) and the Ladakh Buddhist Association (LBA) who allege that the Confluence promotes Drugs, western culture and rocking music... is cited as the main reason for the cancellation.

AIR tenders notice for DRM digital transmitters

MUMBAI: All India Radio (AIR) has placed a global tender notice for the procurement of several DRM digital transmitters. It has invited bids for the supply of 34 new MW transmitters, for the upgrade of 36 MW transmitters and purchase of 5 SW transmitters and other associated equipment. The Research Department of AIR is also going ahead with the purchase of a 500 watt DRM shortwave transmitter for conducting trials on 26 MHz SW DRM transmissions for local coverage.

Media firms move court against service tax on copyright

NEW DELHI: The Delhi High Court will hear on 2 August a petition by some media companieschallenging the central government�s decision to levy service tax on copyright services. Notice was issued to the Union of India and the Union Finance Ministry by a division bench headed by Chief Justice Deepak Misra on a petition filed by PVR Pictures, Balaji Telefilms, Yash Raj Films and UTV Motion Pictures.

Radio One gets anthem by SEL; plans new show

MUMBAI: Continuing with its endeavor to pump more music, Radio One has announced the launch of a new property called �Play Your Music Day'. The musical trio of Shankar Ehsaan and Loy, who are also the brand ambassadors have composed a new theme song for the station. The show which will air from 23 July at 8pm-9pm will chose a total of 1000 listeners across seven cities from month on month to come to the station and play their favourite songs in the one hour show. The trio of SEL will be the first to play 13 songs live and unplugged for the listeners.

MUMBAI: The closing ceremony of 2010 FIFA World Cup will see Shakira and South African Afro-fusion band Freshlyground performing the recent worldwide hit "Waka Waka (This Time For Africa)" which is also the Official song of the 2010 FIFA World Cup. The performance will take place on the field at Soccer City Stadium in Johannesburg on 11 July at 6:42 local time to precede the final match of the cup.
