Spiritual music channel Divya launched

NEW DELHI: For the first time in the country, a multi-system operator in Chandigarh has launched a spiritual music television channel. The channel, Divya, has already started beaming round-the-clock and has been uplinked from Thaicom satellite. The footprint of this satellite covers India and several south Asian and south east Asian countries.

Sony BMG partners ibibo.com for unique compilation

MUMBAI: Music label Sony BMG has partnered with ibibo.com to roll out what it terms the first ever community voted compilation of the best of 'Michael Jackson - King of Pop'. The music album that will be in stores by January 2009 will be a special selection of Michael Jackson songs collectively voted by community members of the social networking site ibibo.com. The community members with the most voted tracks will win prizes and get recognition on the web site.

PPL, IPRS take FM route to create awareness

MUMBAI: Music licensing bodies The Phonographic Performance Ltd (PPL) and The Indian Performing Right Society (IPRS) have started a radio campaign across the country to create awareness about the issue of music royalty. The campaigns, that began this week, are being aired on Reliance ADAG's Big FM and Sun Network's SFM which promise a pan India presence and will be on air for one month, mainly targeting event organisers in view of the upcoming Christmas and New Year celebrations.

Radio One launches in Kolkata

MUMBAI:  Radio One is the latest FM player to launch in Kolkata. The joint venture between Mid-day and BBC worldwide rolled out its seventh station in Kolkata this week, completing its metro footprint. Radio One has also struck a sales alliance with the Siliguri headquartered Radio Misty. Radio One will now sell its East package for Misty's Siliguri and Gangtok station jointly. "We are positioning ourselves as â€?India's largest metro focussed radio network as it is quite clear that metros contribute to over 75 per cent of most client's businesses.

Event Review: A musical night with Hariharan

MUMBAI: The seventh Dev Gandharva festival organized by Kalyan Gayan Samaj commenced on 12 December with ghazal performance by vocalist Hariharan. "There is a need for such organizations today to restore and preserve our rich culture with so many western influences," stated Hariharan before the concert. Accompanying him in the ghazal night were versatile musicians - Shahdab Bhartiya on tabla, Sanjay Mishra on guitar, Ustad Liyakat Ali Khan on the sarangi and Altaq Hussain on the harmonium.
