Abhijeet Bhattacharya denies molesting woman at Durga Puja

MUMBAI: It seems like ‘Dhoom Taana’ singer, Abhijeet Bhattacharya, is becoming the Hindi music industry’s bad boy. Not long ago he called Pakistani singer, Ghulam Ali, ‘dengue artist from a terrorist country’ on his social networking page, and now there are reports stating he allegedly molested a 34-year-old woman during a recent Durga Puja celebration.

The woman -- whose uncle also happens to be one of the organisers of the pandal in Lokhandwala, Mumbai, where the incident is supposed to have taken place – lodged a police complaint at Oshiwara Police station against the ‘Tum Dil Ki Dhadkan’ singer. In her FIR, she mentioned that Bhattacharya had molested her at the pandal around 10 pm on Wednesday. She said that she was busy watching singer- Kailash Kher’s performance when she realised that someone was touching her inappropriately, and that happened to be Bhattacharya. The woman raised her voice against it but apparently Bhattacharya threatened her with consequences. Soon after the incident, security at the venue escorted the lady outside.

However, there is another version to the story. As per NDTV’s reports, Bhattacharya’s friends stated that the woman was blocking people’s views, which eventually led to an argument between the two.

In a press conference held today (23 October, 2015) Bhattacharya said, “It’s just an allegation. How can you molest someone in a crowded place? Just because I am a celebrity, I am the target. Someone has planned this against me.”

The singer, in response to Censor Board member Ashoke Pandit, on his social media page, echoed the same sentiment.

Officials at Oshiwara Police station confirmed the complaint to Radioanadmusic.com, but refused to divulge any details on the same. However, they did say that action will be taken only after recording statements by witnesses. The police might even look into CCTV footage of the pandal to get better view of the incident.
