I wanted to include the Indian culture as well as make Rahasmay commercial at the same time: Rebeca Mayorga

MUMBAI: Raised in a small town, somewhere in the state of Jalisco, Mexican singer Rebeca Mayorga was always smitten by India and its culture. Having started singing from the age of seven and writing songs when 10, Rebeca wanted to portray India in her song that had a story. In an exclusive interview with Radioandmusic, the singer shares about her newest single Rahasmay, which is a love story, showcasing the mystery of the land of Maharajas, India.

Can you tell us about your newest song 'Rahasmay'? What is the story behind creating this wonderful song?

India was always a place that I wanted to visit since I was a child. The mysticism and magic of the country made me dream of being here one day. I came to India for the first time was five years back when I got impressed with all these beautiful temples, palaces and forts that's how I started to visualize a video filmed in India. It took me some time to create the story of the song because I wanted to include the Indian culture as well as wanted Rahasmay to be commercial at the same time to reach the global audience. One day, I finally thought of writing a song that has a magical place and a love story with a mystery man that is how Rahasmay was born. Also, I already had in my mind incredible locations so if you add incredible sounds and the great voice of an Indian male singer, it's just the perfect combination.

What do you want to say about Indian music and singers?

India has beautiful music as well. The traditional instruments are unique. There are amazing singers in India, I got impressed with their natural vibration.

The word 'Rahasmay' itself means mystery in India's national language Hindi. What inspired you to choose this title?

The story is about a man, who is shy and has never been out of India and had never been involved with a foreigner. A man who doesn’t express his feelings is mysterious somehow. I really liked the word as well and the way it sounds in my song, Rahasmay matched perfect into the melody, I had created.”

Music has been a part of your life from childhood. Did you always wanted to sing?

I started to sing when I was seven years old. My first experience into singing was at church since then I started to dream of becoming an artist.

Can you tell us about your genre of music? Which other genres, you want to sing for?

My concept is basically a mix of acoustic arrangements with electronic sounds, it can be called electro pop, however I have up tempo, mid and low tempo songs. I plan to work in different kinds of instruments at the acoustic part. Some people in the industry advised me to define more my concept, but I won't limit my creations will add my spirit to every single song. I also like New Age some of my ballads have influence of this genre, my previous single Until The End is one of them.

Apart from singing, what inspired you to write songs also?

I'm a woman, who has the necessity to create. I started to write when I was 10 years old. I had no idea of how to write a song, but I had many words in my mind and wanted to put them together on a piece of paper. I was not a realistic child as my mind was always travelling even nowdays. Writing songs makes me feel proud about myself and makes me feel I can use my time in a good way.

How was your stay in India? Did you visit famous places here?

This is my fourth time coming to India. Apart from Mumbai, I visited Agra because Taj Mahal is a place where I dreamed to be. I also visited Delhi and had an amazing tour over there. Besides, i've also been to Goa, Banglore and of course to Rajasthan.

Did you eat Indian delicacies? Which are your favourite?

I have tried so many Indian plates of course, I really like Indian food, Idli, Dal, butter panner, biryani, the sweets and teas are also very good.

What is that one thing you liked about India the most?

I loved its story the most.

Any collaborations with Indian artists, you want to share about?

So far I got the opportunity to invite male singer Manish Sharma to participate in Rahasmay. His voice is amazing and it gave a great atmosphere to my song. I hope to have more collaborations in the future.
