Nikhil Chinapa: "Everybody on my wish list will be in India this Year"

Nikhil Chinapa, a well-known name in the music industry today, has donned several hats as he constantly changes roles. Commencing his journey as a VJ for more than a decade, the dance music aficionado has taken his passion on a different level altogether. Apart from being the co-founder and festival director of the premier music festival Sunburn and hosting a radio show, he also founded his company Submerge Music, instrumental in bringing prominent DJs to India like Fatboy Slim, Paul Van Dyk, Swedish House Mafia, Alesso and Above and Beyond.

IPRS eyes 25 per cent growth in FY'2012-2013

Universal Music makes new appointments as part of EMI merger

MUMBAI: Strengthening its position further in the market, Universal Music Group announced the appointment of John O’Donnell as MD of its EMI division in Australia. Donnell previously headed EMI Australia from 2002-2008, but left shortly after the company's takeover by venture capitalist Terra Firma in 2008. In his new role, Donnell will oversee most of the old EMI assets within a division of Universal including EMI, Capitol and Virgin labels in Australia. He will report to Universal Music Australasia president George Ash.

Google to launch music streaming service

MUMBAI: Search giant Google is reportedly working on a free music streaming service, offering competition to Spotify and Pandora. The service is set to offer users free unlimited listening supported by ads along with ad-free subscription options. As per reports, Google has been in negotiations with music companies about developing an on-demand streaming music service with a subscription based model and a free model with in-built advertising. The new service will compete with the likes of Spotify, Deezer, JB HiFi NOW and more.

Elton John announces 30th studio album

MUMBAI: Legendary singer Sir Elton John has announced the launch of his 30th studio album titled 'The Diving Board'. It is slated for a tentative September release. The album will be the veteran singer’s 30th studio LP, and the second of his main releases since 1979's ‘Victim of Love’ to be recorded without any of his regular band. It comprises of 13 tracks penned by him and long-time songwriting partner Bernie Taupin, and features tracks from a mix of genres including jazz, gospel and more.
