MUMBAI: The ‘Mahashivratri Festival’ or ‘The Night of Shiva’ is one of the most celebrated festivals of India. The youth icon of the masses and the problem healer of the followers, Lord Shiva is beloved to many and has a dedicated fan following among Shaivites in India. On this auspicious day, it is believed that the Lord of Creation was bound with Parvati in holy union.

Here are a few Bollywood tracks that pay obeisance to Shiva, some in solemnity, others in the gay abandon that marks the Nataraj form of Shiva.

Jai Jai Shivshankar- Aap Ki Kasam (1974)

The title track of this film is a pact for all devotees of Shivji. Sung in the mellifluous voice of Lata Mangeshkar, the appealing lyrics defines how the love for the deity is justified.

Bam Lahiri (2009)

The song and the video both make sense if you perceive Lord Shiva as a great teacher. One may groove to this apt song and keep up the Holy Spirit.

Bhola Bhandari- Katyar Kaljat Ghusali (2015)

Singer- Arijit Singh

Perfect rhythm, impeccable lyrics and flawless melody, this is what this spirited and spiritual number is all about. Certainly, this latest addition to the odes to Shiva from Bollywood can stay on loop for the true Shiv bhakt, any time of day or night. No one else but Arijit could have done justice to this energetic number.

Shiv Tandav (2015)
