'Made-for-each-other' jodis in Bollywood

MUMBAI: They have created magic on celluloid with their chemistry, even though one part of these magic ‘jodis’ has always stayed behind the screen.

You cannot, however, imagine one apart from the other. Think Raj Kapoor andyou think Mukesh, think Rajesh Khanna and you think Kishore Kumar. Closer to this millenium, we have seen several such made-for-each-other pairs, one part of which is difficult to imagine without the other.

Here's a look at some our most compatible singer-actor duos in Bollywood:

Emraan Hashmi- Himesh Reshammiya

If you need fire on stage, this combination of face and voice has more than just a spark. Himesh’s voice suits Emraan to such an extent that we have got oodles of hit songs from this deadly combination’s ouvre.

Some nuggets: Aashiq Banaya Aapne, Jhalak Dikhlaja, Aap Ki Kashish

Salman Khan and S P Balasubramaniam

He belonged to Kamal Haasan long ago. But when Kamal stopped acting in commercial Hindi cinema, SP found an even better fit in Salman Khan right from his debut movie. Salman may have switched to other voices after his Dabangg phase, but no one can deny that it was SP that gave Salman’s romantic songs that edge in the first two decades of his career.

Some SP-Sallu hits: Hum Aapke Hain Kaun, Mere Rang Mein Rangne Wali, Aaja Sham Hone Aai, Wah Wah Ramji

Ranbir Kapoor and Mohit Chauhan

Here’s hoping Ranbir Kapoor does not let go of this perfect match like he juggles his loves in his personal life. There is hardly any film of Ranbir Kapoor in which Mohit Chauhan hasn’t lent his voice. The duo started with ‘Rajneeti’ and has continued with a dream run. Where there’s Ranbir, there’s Mohit. Need we say more?

Some gems: Tum Ho, Matargashti, Ala Barfi

Shah Rukh Khan and Abhijeet Bhattacharya

King Khan has toyed with a few singers to playback for him, but none come close to the sizzle that he enjoys with Abhijeet. Abhijeet’s voice complements Shah Rukh perfectly and the proof of the pudding is in the many films they worked their magic in.

Some hits: Chalte Chalte songs, Mein Koi Aisa Geet Gau, Raat Ka Nasha Abhi

Sanjay Dutt and Vinod Rathod

When one hears the songs of ‘Munnabhai M.B.B.S’, it’s hard to visualise anyone butt Sanju baba belting out the songs.  The voice behind Sanju’s deadpan histrionics is Vinod Rathod. Perhaps Rathod is waiting as eagerly as the rest of his well wishers for Dutt to return from Yeravada and create some more on-screen music together?

Songs popular tracks: Samjho Ho Hi Gaya, Munna Bhai M.B.B.S title song

Saif Ali Khan and Shaan

Shaan complements Saif extremely well. Shaan’s evergreen voice matches Saif’s youthful face. Their energies sync, their styles match and their voices have that the same pitch that makes them so made-for-each-other. And yes, they have been pairing up for close to 15 years now. Need we say more?

Some hits: Hey Shona, My Dil Goes Mmm, Ladki Kyon Na Jane Kyon

Madhuri Dixit and Kavita Krishnamurthy

So we dug this pair out of the relatively hoary past of Bollywood, but which list can be complete without the matchless Madhuri? And who better to croon for that lively face than the liveliest voice with its husky undertones that Kavita was known for throughout the 1990s? The singer’s layered and versatile voices made for some memorable tracks back then. And the sizzle hasn’t waned.

Some foot tapping numbers: Mera Piya Ghar Aaya), Kaahe Chhedh Mohe

Amrita Rao and Shreya Ghoshal

Okay, so we saved this one for the last because we didn’t want you to go 'Amrita who?'  But surely you remember the sweet and simple looking girl from ‘Vivah’ who tugged at our heartstrings. And Shreya’s voice suited her to a T. Amrita’s career may not have gone great guns after that, but the songs have stayed with us. Would you agree?

Some fond memories: Main Hoon Na, Mujhe Haq Hai, Do Anjaane Ajnabi
