Singh is Kinng

Music Director: Pritam Chakraborty

Lyrics: Mayur Puri

Our Rating: 2.5 / 5

Not the usual, not an extremist either. The music of Singh is Kinng comes packed with anticipations, courtesy its far flung promotions. A major portion of the music is westernised. Music director Pritam Chakravorthy has mainly dug into the English style of music, inclusive of rapping and bit of rock. However appealing the music may be, bits and pieces are a straight cut-copy-paste job from some of Pritam's earlier work, which leave the listener disappointed.

Indian music lovers are in for some rap whang by famed international rapper Snoop Dogg. Singh is Kinng's rap version is a good mix of Punjabi feel and rapping antics. RDB, the Punjabi band from UK, does a fair job in the progress of the song. The music witnesses a variation, from plain rapping beats to the bhangra effect. The hookline 'Singh is Kinng' will leave an impact on listeners. Akshay Kumar's voice adds extra value to the song.

Labh Janjua is back in action. His first runaway hit Soni De Nakhre is still resonating in a thousand ears. He vocalises 'Jee Karda' with Suzie Q, who does the English lyrics. The track has an absolute fireball feel to it. A typical Punjabi song clad with lyrics in authentic Punjabi, the western touch works well for the song.

Bas Ek Kinng brings Mika Singh, Neeraj Shridhar, Ashish Pandit mike to mike with UK pop artist Hard Kaur. While she indulges in pure rapping, the men sing funky lyrics in sync. Mayur Puri, the lyricist for the album, sticks to the theme very well. Pritam has managed to make this one sound different from Singh is Kinng.

'Bhootni Ke' is a lyricist's song. It is the wordings of the song which keep the music progressing. While music has a very small role to play in this song, it does add to the funny lyrics. Daler Mehendi's vocals are simply amazing. This song may click with the masses because of its raw feel, the elite will choose to play the next track on the CD.

'Teri Ore' could have been a raging hit only if the film released before Race. The tunes of Teri Ore are bit by bit copy of Race's Pehli Nazar sung by Atif Aslam. It is certainly shocking to see an esteemed music director doing a blatant lift of his previous works. The song is well sung by Rahat Fateh Ali Khan and Shreya Ghoshal. The lyrics seem good too, but fall flat, thanks to its 'heard-before' feel.

Talli Hua is a good song wasted. Firstly, its lyrics which hardly make any sense. Secondly, the music which again is similar to Chakravorthy's previous work in bits and pieces. The music resembles Goal's 'Hey Romana.'The album has an array of remixed versions. Bas Ek Kinng's remix is a rocking one with Hard Kaur in total mood! Bhootni Ke's remix is crooned by Mika and sounds like an unplugged version. Though not as good as Daler's piece, it turns out a so-so track. It also has DJ Amythi's version, which sounds fine. Talli Hua's mix is strictly okay since the original doesn't click. Hyacinth's remix of Jee Karda sounds ho-hum, the original is way better than the former. Teri Ore has a drab fast version and has nothing great to offer.

The album, overall, can be rated a little above average; however, Singh is Kinng is not likely to charm music lovers to a great extent.
