Kismat Konnection

usic Director: Pritam Chakraborthy

Our Rating: 3/ 5

Wonder how music director Pritam Chakraborthy muscles in so many music albums across the year! After giving blockbuster hit Race early 2008, he came up with his latest album, Singh Is Kinng, which does just about fair; and now it's time to put kismat Konnection under the scanner!

This one will compel you to get up and groove along. It has the spark and proves to be a breather from the conventional sing-and-dance tracks. A compilation of five songs with their respective remixed versions, Pritam's brand new work does make an impact.

'Aey Pappi' is a musical treat. Apart from its catchy hookline, the song stands out particularly, for its westernised tweaked music. It has the power, which is sure to make a non-dancer flow on the floor! Neeraj Shridhar croons another lead song and how! He's blessed with an untraditional, husky voice and sings effortlessly. Shabbir Ahmed's lyrics seem ho-hum, except of course, for 'Aai pappi.'

Pritam's favourite singer Atif Aslam is on the mike again. His track 'bakhuda' with Alka Yagnik is a soft soothing, feel good song. However the song would have sounded better solo. Atif's range gets better with every song he records. The lyrics by Sayeed Quadri will not linger on in one's mind after having listened to this composition.

Moving on, there is Hard Kaur who can really spice up a song! She along with Shaan and Suheil Paul does a peppy number. 'Move your body's music has certain faint resemblances with an old Indi-pop track - 'Hawa hawa.' Hard kaur's rap is distinctive and lifts the song up by leaps and bounds. Akriti Kakkar does a fair job, sounding a bit sqeaky in parts though. Suheil, who started off with Pritam's Baatein Kuch Unkahee Si of Metro, does a decent play. This song is certain to rock many nightclubs across India.

Every album has a track, which can safely be ignored. Call it repetitive composition or just a song which lacks novelty. Though 'Is this Love' is a sweet song, it doesn't offer anything new. It is just another love song in an album. Shreya Ghoshal sounds her usual, Mohit Chauhan, the dooba-dooba guy makes a difference to the track.

Pritam's album is incomplete without a bhangra track with the authentic Punjabi tadka. But 'Dhak dhak,' the traditional Punjabi song, sounds flat.
It's Sonu Nigam and Sunidhi Chauhan at work, but the song does not create any fireworks! After giving 'Mauja hi mauja,' listerners will not settle on anything sub-standard.

The remixed versions pep up the songs big time. Like in all remix cases, it is an effort to make the originals fast paced.

Songs do complete justice to the film's romantic image. The lyrics can be a put off in some cases. However, the compilation is different, just what we need for this season!
