Ghatothkach

Music Director : Singeetam Srinivasa Rao

Lyrics : Sameer

Our Rating: 2.5/ 5

Children's animated films in India have been lucky of late. Films like Bal Ganesh, Hanuman Returns and My Friend Ganesha been blessed by compositions by Shameer Tandon, Tapas Relia and the voices of the likes of Shankar Mahadevan, Asha Bhosle, Shaan, Adnan Sami and Daler Mehndi.

Now an industry veteran Singeetam Srinivasan Rao, has stepped in not just to direct a new animated product, Ghatothkach, he has also provided the music score for the film. Another veteran, Sameer, has penned the lyrics. There are seven songs in the movie, one of which is sung twice .A subtle essence of innocence flickers through the music. Ghatotkach too has been blessed with songs rendered by eminent names like Shreya Ghoshal, Shaan, Sunidhi Chauhan, S.P Balasubranium, Daler Mahendi and others.

Main Hoon Ghatothkach, the title song sung by child artiste Shravan is a decent attempt at creating lovable and danceable tunes. The fast-paced pick up beats are appealing to the ears of the listeners.

The song Maya Bazaar, sung by Punjabi pop king Daler Mahendi is strictly OK. With another film in his kitty, Daler has tried his hand at the animated genre(after Hanuman Returns) . Alas! The efforts fails to work wonders for the singer.

Mahalakshmi Iyer renders the third song, Natnagar Ki Hai Saari Leela, which has a protective , mother-like mood attached to it. It tends to give a calm and composed feel to the song. But on the whole, the song comes across as a monotonous recitation of a long story amidst slow tunes.

The fourth song, Main Yahan ,Tu Wahan makes use of the soothing vocals of Shaan and Shreya Ghoshal .This song surprisingly comes forth as a typical Hindi movie song with an unusual charm. It undoubtedly poses the potential to top the chartbusters and create its position among the collection of romantic tracks. The song also seems to come close to the timeless tunes of the old Hindi films that carried with them a sort of softness.

Angalik Bangalik¦..Jadu Hai sung by Shravan is a package of heavy drum beats .It forces you to get up from your seat even if you're relaxed and move to the catchy tunes and thuds of the drums. The best part about the song is that it not only caters to the kids but is a dance number that will help you shake that booty even more. It makes you want to be a part of the jadoo of Ghatothkach.

Powerful as it may get ,the voice of SP Balasubramanium has given an identity to the sixth song Sajaa Hai Bhojnalay. SP, better known for singing romantic tracks that sends goosebumps down his listeners has managed a pretty fair deal this time. However his versatile voice has not been the perfect fit in this context .On hearing the song for the first time, the eagerness to listen to it again is somehow lost.

Aana Aaja Na has an interesting folk and classic blend to the melody. The voices of Sunidhi Chauhan and Sudesh Bhonsle have been used to its fullest extent. This again comes across as a groovy dance number that would enable you to hit the dance floors. It is a light-hearted track ,which could be easy to pick up in no time.

The final track, Main Hoon Ghatothkach is a repeat adult version of the first song, now hummed by Sudesh Bhonsle, who pulls it off pretty well as the now older Ghatothkach. This song has been pretty popular among the masses and gives the crowd a reason to watch the film. You forget most songs the moment you stop watching TV or listening to the radio , but there're film songs that remain etched in your memory for their simplicity. Ghatothkach may just be one such film.

All in all, the music of Ghatothkach is a collection of mixed melodies .The title song and Main Yahan ,Tu wahan are songs to look forward to. There are also chances of being bored out by certain tracks, but on the whole, you can experiment with the flavours of the songs.

You may also go ahead and grab yourself a copy of the CD if you wish to, just in case you're a die hard fan of youthful, fun-filled tracks.
