Our Rating- 2.5/5

After the roaring success of 'Tashan' and not so great compositions of 'Bhoothnath', Vishal-Shekhar have returned with 'De Taali'. Vishal has doubled up again as a lyricist for some tracks. But for their penchant for obviously routine tracks, De Taali has some foot-thumping tracks in true Vishal Shekhar style.

The album opens to a foot-thumping energetic number "Everybody put your hands together", a dance number which sees the vivacious voice of Sunidhi Chauhan, Anushka Manchanda and Shaan coming together. The track has the engrossing flavour of qawalli and hip-hop. The recurring drum-beat pattern makes it a head swinging, club-setting track. A sure hit track.

Shaan and Sunidhi come together again for the next track 'De Taali'. Abbas Tyrewala has chipped in as the guest lyricist for this song. Shaan is at his best with the vocals and is complimented well by Sunidhi, bringing alive the youthfulness in the song. Vishal-Shekhar are the masters when it comes to adding bouncy disco beats and giving a techno feel to the song. The remix version of the track carries the fun forward and will be enjoyed by club-goers.

'Aaj main boond hun' is the next track rendered by Shreya Ghoshal and Vishal Dadlani. After the various neck swaying, hip-shaking tracks comes this romantic rendition. Vishal steps in as the male singer though it is Shreya's pristine voice that does the magic in the otherwise mediocre composition.

'Hone Lagi' brings alive R D Burman nostaligia. The song is on lines of Jhankar Beats, composed by the duo. Anushka Manchanda who has primarily been associated with fast paced tracks, comes as a pleasant surprise in this romantic rendition. It is good to see her changing gears from her usual boisterous racy numbers to a soft, smooth composition. Shekhar adds the moments of romanticism to the track. Both the vocals in the song are impressive. The remix version is also enjoyable and is sure to find its way into clubs.

The Sa Re Ga Ma Pa runner-up (2007), Raja Hassan, makes his mark with one of the finest tracks of the album, 'Maari Teetri'. This song has Rajasthani folk appeal, along with foot-thumping western beats which makes it good groovy number. It is on the lines of Sunidhi's 'Sajnaji Vaari Vaari' from Honeymoon Travels. Raja's vocals enhance the rustic mood and setting of the track and the catchy tune is sure to be a hit with the party-goers.

The next track 'Tooti Footi' sees heavyweights like Sunidhi, Shaan and Kay Kay coming together. The song utilises minimal instruments and the singers are at the forefront. A love song which talks about romance 'blues', it has elements of jazz in it. It is an interesting track, sounding like a conversation between two people.

After a long time, one sees Vishal-Shekhar back to the R D Burman mode of music, which the duo last crooned in Jhankaar-Beats. De Taali is a good mix of fast-paced as well as slow romantic tracks making it an enjoyable experience. The album is a step forward to the fast-moving ladder of the duo's success.
