Trilok Guthu

Body:

The world aware Indian music lover needs no introduction to Trilok Gurtu. Voted Drum Magazine's Best Overall Percussionist he is one of India's most celebrated exponents of cross-over jazz fusion featuring the use of Indian and Western instruments. He has collaborated with practically every great name in the genre from John McLaughlin to Jonas Hellborg, Karsh Kale to Tavlin Singh. He has pioneered several techniques and styles and while member of Tabla Beat Science founded by Zakir Hussain he spearheaded a new sound that fused Indian sounds with Asian Underground, Drum and Bass and Electronica.

Beginning his career in Mumbai with the tabla, his mother classical singer Shobha Gurtu encouraged him to look to the world while remaining true to his traditions. His latest album Massical' has just been released to rave reviews. It will be a rare honour for Kyra to host a man of such greatness and watch him weave his spell at the theatre. Come, share the magic.
