NCPA Umang Series - Promotion of Promising Artistes. Soumalya Chakraborty (Sitar). Maitreyee Roy-Dadarkar (Vocal).

Supported by the Narotam Sekhsaria Foundation in the service of the arts Soumalya Chakraborty was initiated into Hindustani classical music by his father Sajal Chakraborty. Later he took a keen interest in the sitar, being initially trained by Harashankar Bhattacharya and further groomed by Kushal Das of the Maihar gharana. Soumalaya is also adept in light music genres like bhajans, Bengali and Hindi songs, devotional songs and Rabindrasangeet.

Maitreyee Roy-Dadarkar initally trained with Pallav Bhadra Roy of the Patiala gharana. A student and scholar of ITC Sangeet Research Academy, she took taleem under Arun Bhaduri of the Kirana gharana. She has completed 15 years of training at the Academy and has a Master's degree in Political Science from Calcutta University. She has performed in several music conferences around the country.
