Besides classical and semi-classical music, Indian music finds expression through light and popular music, which has enormous mass appeal. The concept of rasa-bhava or aesthetic emotion, which is the essence of Indian art philosophy, is un-equivocally realised through the abstract medium of sound complemented with mean-ingful lyrics as in forms such as ghazal, bhavgeet, film songs and such others.
This edition of Lokpriya series seeks to relive the magic of film music of yesteryear, with focus on the hit songs rendered by the legendary K. L. Saigal. A singer-actor with a golden voice, Saigal acted in 26 films and sang 200 film and non-film songs that have continued to enthral generations of music lovers. His in-imitable style of singing and power of expression took cine-music to unprecedented heights and made him a legend in his lifetime.
