Description:

The British Council invites to soak in the surreal sounds of new crossover band and one of the club acts at RIFF– Dharohar, a collaboration between UK beatboxer Jason Singh and Rajasthani folk musicians on 7 February, 9 to 9.45 pm at the Ampitheatre at Kala Ghoda Festival, Mumbai.

In October 2008 and late September 2009, 10 musicians from a variety of cultural and musical backgrounds lived and worked together to collaborate and create new music. A unique and unusual collaboration, the artists of Dharohar are from various parts of Rajasthan and different cities in the UK - working across language and culture. Their collaboration 'Dharohar' or imbibing legacy opened to rave reviews, excited applause and many congratulations at the Jodhpur RIFF 2009.

The Dharohar project's creative processes are based upon an agreed equal foundation of openness to share songs, stories, ideas, cultures, struggles, histories and heritage. Their programmes have enthralled audiences in Jaipur, Jodhpur and Delhi. Their performances show immense technical prowess, humour and passion, and have an ability to entertain, move and engage an audience regardless of caste, religion, venue, social or economic situation.

Other performances in India include Surajkund Festival, Haryana on 4 February.

After various performances in India, Dharohar will tour UK in June-July 2010 and have also been invited to Portugal and Spain.
