MUMBAI: After a bit of a shake up in the first half of 2009, radio stations in the four main metros of the country settled down to their respective positions by the end of the year. Radio Mirchi held sway in Delhi and Kolkata throughout the year and dislodged Red FM from the premier position in Mumbai. Big FM refused to give up its slender yet definite lead in Bangalore, making Mirchi contend with second slot. Fever attempted to jog itself up to prime position in Bangalore, Delhi and Mumbai sporadically, but as the year ended it settled into a comfortable third spot in most cities.

Bangalore: As the year wound to a close, Big FM held on to the numero position in the city with a share of 19.4 per cent of the market. Radio Mirchi attempted a valiant climb up 0.3 points in the last week, but managed a share of 17.5 per cent, coming in second. Fever was third witha  share of 15.5 per cent, down 0.4 points from the previous week. Radio City, despite gaining 0.1 points, ended fourth with a share of 12.1 per cent. AIR's Rainbow FM station stayed marginally ahead of Radio One, with a market share of 10.3 per cent.

Delhi: In the capital, Mirchi made strides this week, gaining 0.6 points and ending with a share of 25.3 per cent, far ahead of nearest rival Fever FM, which held on a market share of 18.5 per cent, having gained 0.3 points during the week. AIR's Gold station, despite having lost 0.7 points during the week, stayed at number three with a share of 17 per cent, while Red FM was far behind with a share of nine per cent, despite having climbed 0.2 percentage points during the week. Close behind it was Radio City with a share of 8.1 per cent, Big FM had a share of 6.4 per cent and Radio One a share of 5.8 per cent of the market.

Kolkata: Mirchi retained its clear lead over rivals in the last week of the year despite having lost 0.5 points during the week, ending with a market share of 20 per cent, far ahead of Big FM that ended with a share of 16 per cent of the market, having lost 0.7 percentage points during the week.
