Zakir Hussain to release Ravi Chary's fusion album in collaboration with 17 stalwarts

MUMBAI: Tabla legend Zakir Hussain will release acclaimed sitar player Ravi Chary's debut world musical album, on 16 January in Mumbai. 17 music stalwarts have collaborated with Chary in the making of the album.

The launch will also witness an Indo Jazz concert featuring the musicians who have contributed for the album. Indian percussionist Ustad Trilok Gurtu is the guest of honour.

Other artises who have collaborated with Chary include Ranjit Barot, Sivamani, Louiz Banks, Taufiq Qureshi, Fazal Qureshi, Aditya Kalyanur, Gino Banks, Sheldon D'Silva and more.

The album will be released on EMI and Virgin Records. In his debut world music album, Chary has explored traditional Indian music along with western jazz and produced a fusion. All the nine songs have been composed by Ravi Chary and the creative director is Gino Banks. The music has been mixed and mastered by Rajiv Kenkre.

The Mumbai launch will be followed by the album launch in Goa, Pune, Nasik, Delhi, Kolkatta and various other places.

Ravi Chary is an acclaimed sitar player who featured recently on musical show coke studio and the Dewarists. He has collaborated with some of the greatest names in Hindustani classical music including Ustad Allah Rakha, Kishori Amonkar and Pandit SureshTalwalkar. He has also played alongside a host of incredible international talent including RobertMiles, AngeliqueKidjo and Kai Eckhardt.
