MUMBAI: Global event management agency Wizcraft International Entertainment and Star Television Network have collaborated to announce the felicitation of Indian Music industry with the launch of Star Global Indian Music Awards (GIMA).
The inaugural edition of the Star GIMA will be presented at a ceremony in October 2010.
Recently, the industry seem to be flooded with music awards felicitating the fraternity. Earlier this week Channel [V] had announced the launch of a similar music award. Mirchi Music Music Awards, Big IMA Awards are the other awards honoring the music industry.
The awards aims to honour talent across film and non film music with the vision of celebrating different music genres on the same platform. Industry music labels, producers of music and films are invited to send in their entries, the eligibility period being between 1 April 2009 – 31 March 2010. The winners will then be chosen by the Music Academy which comprises over 200 members through online voting.
Supporting in this endeavor are industry music partners Indian Music Industry (IMI), T-Series, YRF Music, Saregama, South India Music Companies Association (SIMCA), Eros International, Tips, EMI, Sony Music, Venus, Universal Music Group, Aditya Music among others. Star GIMA aims to honour talent across Film and Non-Film music with the vision of celebrating different music genres on the same platform.
On introducing this awards property, Wizcraft International director Sabbas Joseph said, “We are happy to announce a new milestone in Indian music history by introducing the Star Global Indian Music Awards. It is our belief that the music industry’s dedicated audiences has waited a long time to see their musical icons applauded. With a panel such as the GIMA Advisory board, Jury and Academy, we feel that we will achieve what has never been done before, unifying all Indian musical influences onto one common stage.”

The nominees in the various categories will be determined by a panel of illustrious members from within the music industry. Cutting across music and films, the GIMA Advisory Board and Jury include Vijay Lazarus, Bhushan Kumar, Dr. L. Subramanium, Pt. Shiv Kumar Sharma, Shankar Mahadevan, Hariharan, Prasoon Joshi, Pritam, Karan Johar, Mukesh Bhatt, Rakeysh Om Prakash Mehra, Shekhar, Leslie Lewis, Talat Aziz, Usha Uthup, Resul Pookutty, Sulaiman Merchant, Kumar Taurani, Apurv Nagpal and Atul Churamani, amongst others. The jury is further divided into a film, technical and non-film jury.
