Virgin to launch Mekaal Hasan Band's second album

MUMBAI: Pakistan based Mekaal Hasan Band, popularly known as 'MHB' is geared to launch its second album, 'Subtuk' in India next month 

The album will be launched by Virgin Records; their earlier album 'Sampooran' was also launched by Virgin.

The album 'Subtuk' will comprise eight tracks and one remix track from their earlier album, Sampooran  The songs have again been cast in the Sufi genre and have a classical touch to them  Lyrics for some of the songs have been picked up from renowned Punjabi Sufi poet Baba Bulleh Shah's works, while a few tracks are written by the vocalist Javed Bashir and two-three tracks are based on classical ragas  

The band members behind the album are the same as their previous launch,Sameer Ahmed on Bass, Javed Bashir rendering the vocals, Mohd Ahsan Papu on the flute, Mekaal Hasan as the lead guitarist  Arrangement for the tracks has been done by Meekal Hasan and compositions by Bhasir himself.

The band has delayed the launch of their album, 'Andholan'  The project has been shelved and in the meantime, they would be launching 'Subtuk'  "The lyrics of the album are too deep and thought provoking so, the label wanted it to be a bit lighter and commercially viable  We would be working on it and launch the album by March or April next year," says Bashir who in India working on some Bollywood projects.

Bhasir had earlier rendered his voice for an alaap in A R Rahman's Yuva  He is currently working on Music Composer Monty Sharma's forthcoming project, 'Khuda Hafiz'  Apart form some other Bollywood projects, the vocalist is also working towards composing his own album. Confirms Bashir, "I would be launching my solo album next year, I have composed eight tracks for it  The album is ready but the label hasn't been finalised yet."

MHB had launched their earlier album, 'Sampooran' on 12 October 2007 through Virgin Records at St. Andrews Auditorium in India and received a tremendous response  The band is again going to visit India for launch and promotion of their second album, 'Subtuk' in October and November.

The Pakistani band has recently won the 'The Best Live Act Award' at The Musik Awards 2008.
