Vehrnon Ibrahim quits Radio One, reshuffle on the cards

MUMBAI: Radio One vice president programming Vehrnon Ibrahim has put in his papers. Ibrahim will serve his notice period till 31 December.

It is most likely that one of the programme directors –Rishi Krishnani (Mumbai), Anil Machado (Bangalore)or Debojit Saha (Delhi) will step into Ibrahim's shoes, although the company has not made any formal announcement.

While Ibrahim is tipped to join Radio Today Broadcasting's Meow FM as national programming head, Ibrahim himself is reluctant to confirm his future plans. The industry has been rife with rumours that Abraham Thomas, who quit Red FM recently is likely to helm a revamped Meow FM. Ibrahim was part of the core team led by Thomas that helped propel Red FM to the top, before Ibrahim quit to join Radio One in March 2008. Earlier, he had a three year stint at Radio Indigo and also at InnoMedia as creative director.

A keen musician, Ibrahim was part of a 1980's metal band titled Millenium.

Ibrahim says he is now looking for newer challenges and would be joining his new organisation on 1 January 2010.

Radio One has witnessed the exit of several key members of its team in 2009, including station head west Raj Gopal Iyer in March, programming director and RJ Malini Agarwal who stepped down to head the Channel [V] website, and the popular morning jock pair of Jaggu and Tarana who were asked to leave in June this year supposedly due to falling ratings.

Devika, a popular RJ from Radio One's Ahmedabad station, was brought in with much fanfare to Mumbai to fill the vacuum created by Jaggu Tarana's exit and to pump up the station's '13 songs per hour' concept, but was soon eased out to make way for RJ Prince, who continues to host the breakfast slot.
