This marks the entry of media major UTV as an independent music label. The film is slated for a worldwide release on 15 February 2008. The soundtrack of the film has been composed by music maestro A R Rahman and the lyrics have been written by Javed Akhtar.

Gowariker, who was scheduled to be in Chennai for this entire week to finish the background score of Jodhaa Akbar but could not move out due to ill health.

The film's music was earlier supposed to be launched by Big Music, but the deal petered out, following which UTV decided to release the music under its own label.

Says Big Music CEO Kulmeet Makkar, "Big Music did not back out from this deal. There were difference in the rights and other contract clauses between UTV and us which were not getting resolved on time, hence the window for music release was getting shorter. UTV, in the meanwhile was also considering launching their label for sometime and they decided to launch their music label with music of Jodhaa Akbar. "

Jodhaa Akbar is a sixteenth century story about a marriage of alliance that brought two diverse souls together to find true love between the greatest Mughal emperor that ruled Hindustan, Jalaluddin Mohammad Akbar, and the fiery young Rajput princess, Jodhaa.

The film is produced by UTV Motion Pictures and Ashutosh Gowariker Productions.
