Ustad Zakir Hussian to pay tribute to late Pt CR Vyas

MUMBAI: Internationally acclaimed Tabla legend Ustad Zakir Hussian will pay tribute to the late legendary Hindustani Classical vocalist Pandit CR Vyas on 10-11 January 2012 in Mumbai.

Renowned vocalist Ashwini Bhide Deshpande and santoor maestro Pandit Satish Vyas will open the first day of the '10th CR Vyas Vandana 2011 tribute concert'. Vocalist Shobha Choudhary, a senior disciple of Late Pandit Vyas will also pay tribute to her Guru. The concert is organized by Maharashtra lalit Kala Nidhi, a charitable organization founded by Pandit Vyas in 1973 which engages in the field of Indian Classical Music.

Pandit Chintaman Raghunath Vyas (popularly known as Pt. CR Vyas) passed away on 10 January 2002 in Kolkata, at the age of 78. He was the maestro of khayal, whose style was an amalgam of Kirana, Gwalior and Agra Gharanas. He also created several ragas like Dhankoni Kalyan, Dugam Hindol and Shiv-abhogi, to name a few. Known for his authentic presentation of Khayal Gayaki, Pt. CR. Vyas traveled extensively in India and abroad for concerts. He was the recipient of several awards like �Padma Bhushan', �Sangeet Natak Akademi Award', �Ustad Hafiz Ali Khan Award', �Tansen Samman', �Maharashtra Gaurav Puraskar', �Pt. Dinanath Mangeshkar Award' and several others.
