MUMBAI: Ustad Amjad Ali Khan, and sons Amaan and Ayaan Ali recently released the album 'The Music Room' under Saregama India Ltd. What makes the album differnt from their earlier album's is the fact that it features Ustad Amjad Ali Khan playing individually with his sons.    

"There are many recordings of the three of us playing together but none where I am playing individually with Amaan and individually with Ayaan. In this series, we present some timeless ragas in some very interesting taals. This is our family’s humble offering to the world of music," said the sarod meastro.

The music room is where the guru educates and guides his shishyas, and Ustad Amjad Ali Khan is very much the guru to his sons Amaan and Ayaan. On this album, the emphasis has been to keep the pieces short and tight (makes it more accessible to younger listeners) without sacrificing the identity and feel of the raga. 

Ustad Amjad Ali Khan is the best known name in sarod today. Taught by his father Haafiz Ali Khan, Khan was born to the illustrious Bangash lineage rooted in the Senia Bangash School of music. Today he shoulders the sixth generation inheritance of this legendary lineage.
