Universal Music strengthens digital team with Dy GM

MUMBAI: Adding new designation and position implies to the growing business of a company, and that is exactly the same in the case of Universal Music that has been growing with a lot of collaborations.

Earlier, there was no position of deputy general manager – digital in Universal. The music conglomerate is extremely passionate on establishing and strengthening itself, especially after its take over of EMI Music  this month in India. The move reflects the area Universal Music aims to strengthen in.

Speaking with Radioandmusic.com Universal Music digital vice president Vinit Thakkar says, “There is a great opportunity to launch interesting products and services bundled with ‘money that can't buy experiences' along with the Telco’s and ISP's.”

Srinivasan Subramani, national product manager - music products, marketing at Idea Cellular, has been appointed at the post of deputy general manager – digital. He will report to Thakkar.

Prior to this appointment, Subramani was with Idea for six years. “I had an experience in music products earlier at Idea, so joining in Universal Music is not something completely different. But yet it will be a change, as I will develop products here that are technology-driven,” he says.

On the appointment, Thakkar says, “Subramani's understanding of the product management, platform, technology and the Telco ecosystem will be of great value to UMGI. This role needed someone with an in-depth understanding of the product, technology and platform, Telco and ISP ecosystem.”

Latest merger with EMI Music is being observed as yet another reason for UMGI to take up this step as the new appointment will further strengthen their business. It will also help Universal to look back at the telco operators to build more business.
