MUMBAI: Anuj Sharma, the forgotten third finalist of Indian Idol's second season is ready to cut his debut solo Hindi album.
Says the singer, “Universal Music is launching my solo Hindi debut album, ‘Khwaab’ in December and I would be making my comeback in the Hindi music scene.”
The music for ‘Khwaab’ has been composed on an assortment basis by Gaurav Dayal of (Dil le gayi kudi Gujarat ki fame) and Saibal Basu, who had earlier composed for the 2003 film Waisa Bhi Hota Hai Part II.
Says Sharma, “Khwaab has eight tracks, five composed by Gaurav and three by Saibal. The album is a mixed bag of all genres, rock, hip hop, which appeal to youngsters today.”
Adds Dayal, “While composing for Anuj, I realised that he has always sung in a filmi Bollywood style, so we experimented with the classical genre. It wasn’t appealing so, we scrapped that and composed songs in Ballad rock genre which is the latest trend now.” The label has shot two videos for the album in Bangkok and Thailand.
Acquiring the third position in Indian Idol 2, Sharma has been away from the limelight for over two years. “Although I was not active on the playback music front, I was travelling abroad for live shows. Being away for years now, it would be difficult for the audiences to recollect me as a singer, but I hope they support me even this time around.”
Himachal Pradesh born Anuj Sharma was among the final three on Indian Idol season 2. He shot to fame when he reached the last 28 in the competition and then in the Piano Round to reach the last 12. Anuj went out in that round but the judges brought him back and Anuj moved up to number three before his exit from the show. For the last few years after Indian Idol Fame, he has delivered a variety of critically acclaimed live performances in India and abroad.
Anuj has become an icon of sorts for Himachalis and has recorded more than 25 albums in the Himachali folk genre.
