U2's 'Spider-Man' musical to open on Broadway
MUMBAI: 'Spider-Man Turn Off The Dark', the long-awaited Spider-Man musical which has been in the making for several years was originally due to open earlier this year, will begin preview performances on 14 November with opening night set for 21 December, media reports
The show will feature lyrics and songs by U2's Bono and The Edge
Inspired by the Marvel Comics hero that has also been turned into a series of Hollywood films, the musical will spin a new take on the story of teenage science geek Peter Parker, who is bitten by a genetically altered spider and wakes up the next morning clinging to the ceiling.
The show had encountered major problems earlier this year when the Scottish actor Alan Cumming who was set to play the role of The Green Goblin... and star Evan Rachel Wood to play Mary Jane Watson, the girlfriend of Spiderman quit in the production due to conflict of schedule. Even, Reeve Carney who will play the role of the lead character Spiderman... has also been struck by criticisms.
The Lion King actor Patrick Page has been offered Alan Cumming's role as The Green Goblin... while Broadway actress Jennifer Damiano is set to replace Wood's role as Mary Jane Watson
The production has also experienced financial difficulties but this has been surmounted by the producers
Spider-Man musical has been reported to be the most expensive in Broadway history, with local media reporting it to cost up to US$50 million to stage.
