TuneIn re-launches with designed web presence

MUMBAI: Online radio service TuneIn has re-launched its service with a redesigned web presence to make it more user friendly and drive more engagement with consumers.

The popular online radio service has over 40 million monthly active listeners according to its own data. Its success is attributed to its popular mobile apps, while its web presence was mainly functional.

The new redesigned service encompasses new features like large album cover images to indicate what’s currently playing on a given station. The company states that the experience is meant to ‘replicate the experience people used to have in a record store’.

Its new ‘content-first display’ marks the most significant update of the service’s homepage and station pages in a long time. As per reports last July, the company’s mobile listener base grew 267 per cent year-over-year and the total listening hours increased 348 per cent. During this time, the service developed its mobile apps and expanded to connected cars, but its web presence did not quite make the mark.

TuneIn director of product Kristin George said in a statement, “Not everybody knows what they want to listen to when they come to TuneIn. When you visit the new site today, you get a better idea of our depth of content. This is a big step away from the older web experience, which presented the TuneIn content offering as more of a directory of stations. We are hoping this new layout does a better job of showing people just how exciting it is to have the world’s audio at their fingertips.”

The new update also enables the service to bring its list of trending stations to users, which was previously only available through its mobile app to the web.

TuneIn currently offers its users free access to over 70,000 stations from across the globe and over two million on-demand programs.
