Tides From Nebula stoked to experience Indian culture

MUMBAI: Polish instrumental post-rock band- Tides From Nebula (TFN) recently announced their 2014 Indian Tour, and with the gradual rise in the post-rock independent music scene, there could not have been a better time for the band. The confirmed cities that they will be doing shows at are Bangalore, Pune, Delhi and Manali for the Shiva Squad Festival on 27 September.

With the post-rock genre finally getting some attention, Indian audiences have reacted positively to news of the band making a stop here. TFN’s members Adam Adam Waleszy?ski (guitars) and Maciej Karbowski (guitars, keyboards) talked to Radioandmusic.com about their fascination for Indian culture and their expectations from the audience here. The other members of the band include Przemek W?g?owski (bass) and Thomas Sto?owski (drums).

Adam said, "We are stoked to be touring India and our first stop will be the Himalayas! We are still trying to make other cities happen and we really want to play at Kolkata as well. This is our first visit to the country and we are so excited to see what it will be like."

He added, "We have always been fascinated with Indian culture. We do not know much about the music scene and Indian music is always associated with Bollywood music. So, we really want to explore other aspects of Indian music when we are there. For the past few weeks, I have been watching documentaries on Indian music."

TFN will also be touring with bands- Skyharbor and sleepmakeswaves early next year, and Adam confesses that Skyharbor is the only Indian band whose music he has heard and loves. He admits, "I absolutely love the vocalist Dan Tompkins, who also plays with TesseracT, and when I saw Skyharbor perform ‘Maeva’ at the Download Festival, I became a fan."

On TFN’s tour with After The Burial, Monuments and Circles, the band will play at the Damage Festival in Paris. While all the bands they are touring with are progressive metal bands, TFN is the only instrumental one.

The band has three albums to its credit, of which the second and third albums helped make its mark. TFN’s latest album, released in October last year, is called ‘Eternal Movement’ and was produced by Christer Andre Cederberg. Maciej commented, "Our last album had a lot of inspiration from the eastern philosophy. It would be extra awesome to visit India and we are all looking forward to it. Probably, we will be back as different people."

With a lot of metal influences due to the massive metal scene in Poland, their albums shifted from rock and even metal sounds to ambient and harmonious music. Some of the bands they like are Tool, Behemoth, Caspian, Arcade Fire, The Safety Fire and many more. Maciej said, "We listen to lots of music and really dig some totally different styles, from Deftones to Chopin. We grew as heavy music fans but, right now more melodic stuff inspires us as well."

Adam explained their music creating process which is expected to be different from music with lyrics. He said, "We do not believe in staying in one place; we change and evolve with time. ‘Eternal Movement’ is the most colourful album we have made so far because we matured. Since it is all instrumental, it gets a little difficult at times to create dynamic sounds like we wish to. Then we name the tracks according to how we were feeling when we were creating music. It is a long process and is all about expressing ourselves."

The band also released their Live Sessions on Bandcamp to let people hear the difference between their studio and live sounds. They assured that their merchandise will be sold at their shows here and they will be playing songs from all their albums. Adam enthusiastically said, "We want India to experience the kind of music we have, all the dynamics of our music."

He ended by saying, "We will be at the festival for three days and will definitely check out all the other bands there. We love to play when the sun has set and let people enjoy our music. We are hoping to experience India, its vibrancy and largeness to the fullest and we cannot wait to land there."
