MUMBAI: Taufiq Qureshi's album, The Art of Indian Fusion Drumming, a two-DVD set, was launched by Ultimate Guru Music in Mumbai on Saturday. Qureshi unveiled the album containing three hours of High Definition videos, and also played on the Djembe – his newly-developed language for playing traditional Indian Tabla beats.
Disc One features Taufiq and friends' live studio performances, while Disc Two features Djembe, in the form of a four-part master class tutorial for beginner, intermediate and advanced students of rhythm. There is also an in-depth interview with the artiste about his musical influences and heritage. A trailer can be viewed on youtube.
Renowned Tabla and World Rhythm maestro Ustad Zakir Hussain said, The concept of �Tabl Tal' is the brainchild of Taufiq Qureshi. It is amazing to hear how Taufiq has incorporated the teachings of our father Ustad Alla Rakha into the instrument Djembe. He has not only developed an entirely new technique for the instrument but also has designed a new language as a bridge to transport and transpose the tabla repertoire onto this most non-Indian of instruments I am very proud of my brother Taufiq I think he has brought in an entirely new sound to the traditional compositions of Tabla and Pakhawaj, and I am positive that this new DVD will help to educate and inspire a whole new breed of percussionists in India and in other parts of the world....
