T-Series ends contract with Kumar Sanu

MUMBAI: Super Cassettes Industries Ltd has abstained from renewing its contract with singer Kumar Sanu. According to the contract signed on 7 August 2004, Sanu was signed by the music label and sang exclusively for T-Series till earlier this year.

Sanu says he is now relieved by the company and is free to sing for any other party without needing the music label's consent. The singer confirms, I was bound by a four year contract with T-Series but now the contract hasn't been renewed....

T-Series A&R Chief Ajit Kohli says, We sign many artists for a stipulated period and need not necessarily renew their contracts once expired. We had signed Kumar Sanu for four years and our association ends here....

Kumar Sanu's association with the music label dates back to the 1990s, when the artist got a breakthrough in Bollywood with Mahesh Bhatt film Aashiqui, a T- Series home production. Music directors Nadeem-Shravan got Sanu to sing the songs for the movie, making him a known voice overnight. The hit songs from Aashiqui which continue to be Sanu's popular hits included Sanson ki zaroorat hai jaise, Tu meri zindagi hain, Nazar ke saamne, Jaane jigar jaaneman, Ab Tere Bin Jee Lenge Hum and Dheere, dheere se meri zindagi mein aana.

Kumar Sanu has been away from the Bollywood music scene for a while and has been travelling abroad conducting musical tours and concerts. He is currently a part of the panel judging a talent-hunt show on Zee Bangla.
