Swanand Kirkire, Amit Trivedi win National Award

MUMBAI: Bollywood made its presence felt at the 57th National Award for the year 2009, that were announced this afternoon by filmmaker Ramesh Sippy in New Delhi.

It came as a pleasant suprise to many, as Amit Trivedi picked up his first National Award for the music of Dev D. Congratulatory messages started flowing in on social networking site Twitter for the young composer. Swanand Kirkire picked up the Best Lyricist trophy for 'Behti Hawa Sa Tha Woh' from 3 Idiots.

The playback singer (male) award was grabbed by Rupam Islam for 'Mahanagar'(Bengali) and playback singer (female) award was taken by Nilanjana Sarkar for 'Houseful'(Bengali). For music maestro Illayaraja, it was his fourth tryst with the National Award. He won the honour for Best background score for Pazhassi Raja (Malayalam).

In the Best Audiography category, Subash Sahoo won the Best Sound Recordist award for Kaminey (Hindi), Oscar winner Resool Pookutty won the Best Sound Designer award for Pazhassi Raja (Malayalam) while Anup Dev grabbed the Best Re-recordist of the final mixed track award for 3 Idiots (Hindi).

In the Non- Feature Film Category, Best Audiography award for Re-recordist (final mixed track) was won by Lipika Singh Darai for Gaarud (Marathi).

Aamir Khan's 3 Idiots bagged the award for Best Film Providing Wholesome Entertainment where as Amitabh Bachchan starer Paa earned the award for Best Feature Film (Hindi).
