Suvarna organises 'Old is Gold' on March 27 in B'lore

BANGALORE: Kannada television channel Suvarna is organising one of its kind Kannada programme in which some the best female voices from the yesteryears of the South Indian music industry will be sharing the same stage - P Susheela, L R Eswari, Manjula Gururaj and Ratnamala Prakash. They will sing the best of their Kannada songs from 1960s to 1990s.

The programme is being organized with an intention to give a special experience for both the industry and people alike. The function will be held at Jnanajyoti Auditorium, Palace Road, Near Central College Campus, Bangalore on 27 March 2010, 5.30 PM onwards.

Among the notable achievements and accomplishments by these stalwarts include:

Dr. P Susheela was awarded the Padmabhushana is one of the melodyqQueens of South India. She has started a trust –P Susheela Trust, which has among its objectives the promotion of music and confers the P. Susheela award to one eminent personality in the field of music every year.

L R Eswari is a veteran playback singer from the Tamil movie industry who has sung in other South Indian languages –viz; Telugu, Kannada Malayalam and Tulu.

Manjula Gururaj has started a professional training school for aspirants in the field of music. The school is named "Sadhana Music School" and is first of its kind, where about 800 students are learning the rudiments of music taught in a scientific way.

Sugam Sangeet artiste Ratnamal Prakash was conferred with the first Late Krishna Hangal Rashtriya Puraskar by the Padma Vibhushan Dr. Gangubai Hangal Music Foundation.
