"Still too shy to sing for Bollywood": Priyanka Chopra

MUMBAI: In spite of a high profile international single release and an expected follow up album in the cards, Bollywood actress Priyanka Chopra says she gets the butterflies in her stomach when offered to sing for Bollywood films.

"I was offered to sing whether it's by Salim-Sulaiman or Vishal-Shekhar, but I was too shy for it. I used to try singing on the mic at their insistence but then I use to feel shy and back out saying 'I can't do this'. I had even recorded a song with Vishal- Shekhar for Bluffmaster, but the song was not released," Chopra said.

"But now as I have already launched my own album, I can think about it. But I'll be selective as I am really shy," added Chopra who was in New Delhi to promote her single ‘In My City’ ft. Will.i.am.

"The single has gone triple platinum in India. The response has been overwhelming, even though it was released just a couple of weeks back. The album is a very big deal for me. I feel like a newcomer once again," she said.

"Will.i.am is an extremely talented musician and artist. It was an honour for me to work with him. We have heard so much about him, we love their music. It was a really new experience. There are other international collaborations in this album too, you'll get to know about it as I keep unraveling my songs in the album," she added.

Chopra  said that despite having collaborated with international talents and label, her album is very Indian. "I am very 'desi'. I want the world to get a taste of India through my songs and the album. As I unravel the album you will see that the instruments and the beats are very Indian," she said.

The actress said she trained in Western classical when she was studying in the US for four-five years, but had to prepare a lot before cutting the album. "I hired a vocal coach and she accompanied me everywhere, even during my outdoor shoots for films like 'Barfi!' and 'Teri Meri Kahaani'," said Priyanka, adding that she would be performing live soon.
