"Sound of India 2013" opens for Indian Radio Jockeys

MUMBAI: ‘Sound of India 2013’- an open challenge for Indian radio jockeys to prove their proficiency and obtain the title of ‘Best Indian Radio Show’ for the International Radio Festival. To represent Indian FM Radio on the world map, Indiantelevision.com's Radioandmusic.com has partnered with International Radio Festival (IRF) for the second time in a row.

Indian Radio jockeys and music show producers will get an opportunity to showcase their music radio show ‘live on air’ to an international audience in Europe. The live show will also be aired on their radio station in India. The fest is scheduled to be held from 4-8 September in Zurich.

Invitations are out to all FM radio stations across the country to participate in the eagerly awaited ‘Sound of India’ contest. Organized by Radioandmusic.com (RnM) together with The International Radio Festival (IRF), the contest invites FM radio stations to submit their best music radio show. The winning radio station will get to showcase its programme at this year’s IRF Festival, with accommodation and travel being looked after by the Sound of India initiative.

Radioandmusic.com founder Anil Wanvari says: “Last year Malishka won from India and represented India at IRF. Similarly, this year also we have rolled the contest with a lot of enthusiasm and positivity. We hope to receive entries from FM stations across the country and are looking forward for a fantastic elimination process.”

IRF festival co-founder Darryl von Daniken says: “Radio in India offers incredibly exciting programming, as proved by last year’s winner Malishka at Red FM. The festival absolutely looks forward to another 2hrs radio show from India, offering all those tuned in to 'Listen to how the World Sounds'."

Last year, the inaugural Sound of India contest saw more than 100 entries from 70 private and public FM radio stations. Red FM’s RJ Malishka, host of the station’s Breakfast show – ‘Morning No 1’ - emerged as the winner and won herself and show producer Naheed Jumani a free trip to picturesque Zurich to broadcast a special edition of her show live from the IRF.

At the IRF Malishka gave an exciting presentation of Indian music and culture complete with Bollywood music.  Her show also featured popular Bollywood star Shah Rukh Khan's sound byte on the fest and Zurich.

Contestants can upload an hour or two long show in MP3 format before 23 June. Entries for the competition are free and have to be uploaded on mixcloud.com after registration with Radioandmusic.com.

Once the registration is completed, the radio station/caster/RJ can upload their entry on the MixCloud page.

Entrants will be judged on portrayal of the content mix- of words, style, music and entertainment- that radio in India has to offer on air on a daily basis.

As per the rules and regulations of the contest, RJs to (host) do the talk part of their entry fully (completely) in English or a combination of any Indian language with English. Entries should ideally be of around an hour's duration, but can go up to two hours, and should include the RJing component along with music tracks as if playing to a live on air audience. It should reflect uniqueness and can also include viewer and celebrity call-ins as done on air. It should include FM radio station’s jingle as well.

The Radioandmusic.com and IRF teams will assess the entries and shortlist the top 6. The final winner will be chosen by the IRF and Radioandmusic.com teams and announced on 15 July 2013.

By taking part in the Sound of India@IRF2013, the entrant authorizes IRF, Mixcloud, Radioandmusic.com to store, stream and listen to the entry online, live, on TV, or any other format that is used. IRF, Radioandmusic.com and Mixcloud have no commercial liability for the same.
