Sony rolls out affordable walkman series

MUMBAI: You might have felt envious of your friends flaunting their walkman players, but you preferred to save your money and do with the media player on your phone.

Now with Sony announcing the Walkman NWZ-E350 Series Video MP3 Player, you can head straight to the store and pick the gadget in your favourite colour.

Sony has introduced this series as its budget range, but promising that you'll still get the sort of quality that you've come to expect from the Walkman brand. The players will sell for $70 (4GB) and $80 (8GB).

The E350 series supports MP3, WMA (DRM), AAC (non-DRM) and linear PCM, and it can also handle video in WMV (DRM) format.

One of the interesting features is the SenseMe tech which automatically categorises music tracks in a connected library into a variety of music channels and playlists. If you want to create your own playlists while listening to songs in your library, you can do so using the Bookmark Function. It also includes an updated user interface that offers something called â€?Album Scroll' and â€?Scene Scroll' and for quick and easy navigation

The E series also boasts of a new Walkman user interface and a laudable rated battery life of roughly 50 hours for audio playback and 10 hours for video, depending on your settings. It joins recently released budget players from Samsung and Archos – the R0 and the 3cam Vision, respectively – that also offer more features and capacity at lower costs than the iPod shuffle

In order to deliver clear, deep sound without distortion, the line uses Sony's Clear Audio technologies. Content Transfer Software that rounds up non-DRM tracks from your iTunes and PC music libraries and loads them on to the player is included. It will be interesting to see if Sony keeps up the tradition of high quality bundled earphones, a rarity in the PMP world

Now you just got to choose between the two models, so it's a bit of a no-brainer which one to go for. No pound sterling prices have been revealed as of yet.

The walkman players hit the shops next month in US.
