Sony Music releases music of Sathyu's Kannada film 'Ijjodu'

BANGALORE: Reliance Big Pictures (Reliance) in partnership with Sony Music has launched the music of the MS Sathyu scripted Kannada film �Ijjodu' (Incompatible) at Bangalore.

Reliance Big Pictures COO Mahesh Ramanathan informed that Reliance was making another Kannada film with award winning director Girish Kasaravalli  

The lyrics for the film are by Sudhir Raj Attavar, the music is by Manianth Kadri - the son of legendary saxophone player Gopalnath Kadri, with Pallavi Arun as the singer and G S Bhaskar as the cinematographer 

Mysore Srinivas Sathyu (MS Sathyu) said, Music is one of the most important aspects of this film. It creates magic and revolves around the story to enhance the screenplay. It's enchanting and will take you to a different world while experiencing the film....

Initially the film will have a platform release aka â€?Slumdog Millionaire'. During the first week or two it will be released in five theatres in Bangalore and then based on the reaction will be screened across Karnataka 

Reliance has planned to focus all its efforts in Bangalore in the first phase and its media plans include all vernacular radio stations in the city, vernacular print media in Bangalore, outdoor hoardings and film posters 

Reliance is confident that word about a film by a renowned director like Sathyu is sure to spread across the state and will then release it in other places in Karnataka. An English subtitled version of the film will also be screened to attract Sathyu aficionados' who don't understand Kannada.

Sony owns the exclusive sound rights for the film according to Sony Music Entertainment India Pvt. Ltd. Branch Manager (Bangalore) Shine Raghavan while speaking with radioandmusic.com on the side lines of the music launch press conference. Sony has about 20 dealers and two distributors in Bangalore and two dealers in Mangalore 

�Ijjodu' is Sony BMG's third venture into Kannada films – the first one being �Ninnade Nennupu' (Your Thoughts'), the next one was �Police Quarters'. Next on Sony BMG's regional film music launch is Big Pictures Tamil film �Singham' which should happen by the end of this month or in May 2010.

The storyline of â€?Ijjodu' is based on two Kannada pieces of literature –â€?Ananda' and â€?Masti' is based on the lives or Basavis'. In a remote area in Karnataka, photojournalist Ananda meets Chenni, a woman who was made a 'Basavi'--offered to the village goddess to save the superstitious locals from a devastating epidemic 

Basavis, like Devdasis, often end up becoming sex workers. Ananda specializes in photographing ancient monuments and writing about various rituals and customs that have gone unquestioned. Ananda soon gets obsessed by Chenni's unusual life  In trying to explore more information about her he discovers that she is a victim of blind faith and the story unfolds to changes their lives forever.
