Sony Music names Shridhar Subramaniam President - India & Middle East

MUMBAI: Shridhar Subramaniam, MD, Sony Music Entertainment (SME) India,  has been named President, India and the Middle East. He will continue to be based in Mumbai, and will report to Richard Sanders, President International.

Sony Music now has an office in Dubai, which has made it  only the second music company from India after EMI to have a physical presence in the Middle East. Subramaniam will oversee SME's presence in India, and in the growing Middle Eastern markets of Egypt, Abu Dhabi and Dubai, as well as other Arab Emirates and the Arabic Levant countries of Lebanon, Syria, and Jordan.

Richard Sanders commented, In this new role, Shridhar, who has served as Managing Director of Sony Music India since 2002, will work to capitalize on opportunities between Sony Music India and our nearby Middle East operations in Dubai. Shridhar has a deep understanding of the region. He joined Sony Music India at its founding in 1996 as Marketing Director, and also previously oversaw Sony Music's operations in Thailand in 2006 and 2007....

Shridhar Subramaniam said, This is an exciting opportunity because the Middle East is a fast growing market for International and Indian music. I look forward to our exploring Arabic music, which is becoming increasingly popular all over the world, and to developing it as a catalogue from there....

Subramaniam's elevation is one of three changes to Sony Music's International team in Asia. Denis Handlin, Chairman and CEO, Australia and New Zealand is now also President, South East Asia and Korea. Handlin will manage operations of the Asian Regional Office in Hong Kong with responsibility for Thailand, Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia, Philippines and Korea, while continuing to oversee Australia and New Zealand out of Sydney.  Adam Tsuei, President of Taiwan and Mainland China, is now President, Greater China, overseeing Taiwan, Mainland China and Hong Kong from Taiwan.
