Sonu Niigaam signed by CBSO to create `Rafi Resurrected`

Mumbai: Singer Sonu Niigaam has been signed by the famous, City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra (CBSO) to record 18 famous Mohammad Rafi songs in the Symphony Orchestra style, for the music album titled Rafi Resurrected.

The album is the brainchild of Tim Pottier, the composer/arranger for the Orchestra, who is known to be an avid listener of Rafi songs.

The CBSO then approached Saregama with the vision of releasing the album. The company took the concept a step further by requesting the one person who does the best rendition of Mohammad Rafi and considers him his `spiritual Guru`, to bring his magic to the album - Sonu Niigaam.

Rafi Resurrected combines a symphonic interpretation of Indian film music, for the first time. The songs include gems like the 1963 Yaad Na Jaaye Beete Dinon Ki, Tareef Karoo Kya Uski, Pathar Ke Sanam and Tum Jo Mil Gaye Ho, which was composed by Madan Mohan and written by Kaifi Azmi. The album is scheduled to release worldwide in July.
