Sonu Niigaam resurrects idol Mohd Rafi in London

MUMBAI: Saregama India has launched a new album, 'Rafi Resurrected' at a press conference hosted by Sony television on Tuesday. The album is a compilation of Mohammad Rafi's songs recreated by Sonu Niigaam along with a 75 piece symphony 'The City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra (CBSO)'.

"Sonu Niigaam was an inevitable choice for this project owing to the remarkable similarity between their voices," said Saregama India executive producer Atul Churamani. Niigaam has paid particular attention to the era in which the songs have been sung as Mohammad Rafi's voice matured through the 1940s through to the late 70s.

"I heard all Rafisaab's songs attentively – I know where he paused or where he smiled while singing," said Nigaam. The album consists of 20 immensely popular and unforgettable tracks from films like An Evening in Paris, Baharon Phool Barsaao and the evergreen track Gulabi aakhen Joh teri Dekhi.

Tim Pottier, artiste producer and former librarian for CBSO, was amazed with the versatility offered by the legendary singer. Enamoured by Rafi's work, Tim along with Amarpal Singh Gaind from Saregama India Limited had conceptualized and initiated this project way back in 2005

The entire concert was captured by Sony Entertainment Network in London  "Sony will be spreading across the magic of these concerts to its viewers across India and overseas" said Sony Entertainment Network Business Head, Albert Almeida. The concert titled 'An Evening in London' will air on September 21 at 8 pm on Sony Television
