Sonu Nigam: I am reliving my struggling phase

MUMBAI: Not long ago 'Abhi Mujh Mein Kahi' singer Sonu Nigam was cornered for his infamous controversy of royalties due to which his songs were getting redubbed by the other singers. But the 41 year old has no qualms in being singled out. According to him, the only thing he could do was put up a brave face and keep going.

"The time when my songs were not getting released despite recoding them, it reminded me of the time when I started my career. There was a time when I recorded a few songs, but they got redubbed and when I was told this, I got shattered and would burst into tears and sobbed outside T Series. Today after a long time when my songs like 'Tamanchey', 'Dildaara' and 'Mannat' are released, it feels like I have not let that struggler die,” said Sonu Nigam to Radioandmusic.com.

On being cornered for the controversy he said, "If you are fighting for a cause, this is bound to happen, so I am happy that I did not compromise my principles and I faced everything that came. And ultimately I feel only important people get singled out.”

Recently he crooned a title number for the film 'Kill Dil' for which the music is composed by composer trio Shankar- Ehsaan- Loy. Talking about his song in the upcoming film he said, "I recorded this song when both Shankar Mahadevan and I were down with throat infection. Somehow we finished the recording, but I told Shankar that I can do better than this and fortunately he agreed. Thus after I came from US, I recorded this track,” he explained.

The songs that he records more than once always turn out to be chartbusters. "I sung 'Kal Ho Na Ho' twice, I sung 'Abhi Mujh Mein Kahi' thrice and they became chartbusters. So this is a superstition I have,” he concluded laughing.
