Sona Mohapatra to perform at NY's Lincoln Centre

MUMBAI: Sona Mohapatra, the voice behind songs like 'Bolo Na'and 'Tere Isq Mein' is all set to perform at the 'Rock for Rights' concert to be held at the prestigious Lincoln Centre in New York on 18 January 2009. She's probably the first indian pop musician to perform there. For those who don't know, 'Rock for Rights' is a fund raising music festival held every year where band from around the globe play for a particular cause. The cause this year is gender equality.

Apparently, just a month back Mohapatra had visited the Lincoln centre and watched a performance. "We were shooting for our new video in New York, I also watched a performance there (at Lincoln) and I thought to myself 'what a great experince would it be to perform here.'" Sona says that the invitaion to play there was a like a 'bolt out of the blue', "when I received a call inviting our band to play, I thought that somebody was playing a prank." she added, "This is quite unbelievable, I feel somebody was reading my thoughts - but this is truly a dream come true"

Mohapatra would be playing material from her first album which includes songs like 'Aaja Ve, Bolo Na and INXS indianised 'Afterglow'. "I always like to perform live and be at the bands front - the 'kick' that one gets while playing live is incomparable - no drugs or alchohol can match it" she says.

"I am told that David Bowie would also be attending the concert - it's going to be spectacular," she adds
