Son to give thematic tribute during Pt. Bhimsen's album release

MUMBAI: Music label Saregama India will be releasing Bharat Ratna Pt. Bhimsen Joshi's 14 CD pack elaborate album titled 'The Complete Works- Pt. Bhimsen Joshi' on 7 November 2009.

What makes this album special is that it contains Panditji's music right from 1940's - till date. This pack holds his entire works comprising of his early, rare and unique recordings in Hindustani Classical music as well as Marathi, Hindi & Kannada music that have made him the most popular vocalist over the last six decades.

Intrestingly, the CD also features Pt. Bhimsen Joshi's work as a playback singer and his songs like Ketaki Gulab Juhi with Manna Dey (film Basant Bahar) Rang raliya Karat with Pt. Jasraj from the film Birbal My Brother (English) and many others.

For the launch, Panditji's son Srinivas Joshi would be giving a theme based performance, "I will try to highlight the various aspects of my father and guruji's personality through 10 different bandish during the album launch," he says. The concert Kanan Daras Karo' is an attempt to define Pt. Bhimsen Joshi's persona and his music through the bandish composed by his disciple and son Shrinivas Joshi.

Blessed by being born in a home where music was a breath, Shrinivas Joshi took to music after completing B.Tech from IIT, Delhi. Shrinivas started serious pursuit of music in a traditional Gurukul System under his father and mother late Smt. Vatsalabai Joshi. Being a son of Pt. Bhimsen Joshi, Shrinivas agrees people look up with a lot of expectations, "But one just gets used to it," he says.

Ironically, Pt. Bhimsen Joshi would not be attending this event, "He is 87 now, and he has stopped travelling. Though I would want him to come, I don't think it is right to disturb him," he says. Speaking about how his relationship with his father as a Guru, Joshi says, "The best guru is he who leads by example, all of us know what he has done - whatever he says has the weight of experience behind it," he adds.

Just like any other fan would be, son Srinivas Joshi agrees he is equally enthusiastic about this elaborate album, "Many times these records get lost, or go out of stock - this is a good compilation that features Panditji's body of work."
