Sogani quits as Tips strengthens film production plans

MUMBAI: Tips Senior VP- Music division Rajeev Sogani has quit the organisation after an association of more than 20 years.

Eshwar Advani would be handling operations following Sogani's exit, confirms Tips Industries managing director Kumar Taurani.

Says Sogani, I had a successful and fruitful association with Tips for more than two decades. As I come from a music background, their venturing into films was not in my best creative interest. Also, there is always a point when we have to do something for ourselves and explore alternative options. It is time for me to move on.... While talking to Radioandmusic.com, Sogani hinted that he might start a venture on his own or join another music company but is still weighing options.

Sogani refers to Tips as  a 'progressive and innovative music label' which provided him with ample opportunities to innovate in the last two decades of his association with them

Confirming the development, Taurani says, When Rajeev Sogani joined us he was concentrating on sales and then on handling softwares for the music division. Later as Tips began concentrating on film production with three films lined up this year, Sogani believes his talent is being wasted at Tips. So, he had to move on but we had a great association with him all these years....

The last financial year 2008-2009 was not too profitable for Tips. About the year ahead, Taurani says, This fiscal, Tips would be concentrating on film production and we have three films lined up. We also own the music rights of these inhouse-productions, the films being- Prince, To Baat Pakki and Ajab Prem Ki Ghazab Kahani....

The music for Ajab Prem ki Ghazab Kahani and To Baat Paki has been composed by Pritam and the score for Prince has been composed by Tips in house music producer Sachin Gupta.

Taurani is not happy with the revenue generated by his music label, Tips Music, in the last financial year as it didn't add to its bottomline. Last year, among our film productions, Race which was released in March end 2008 and the other release Kismat Connection didn't help us garner much profit. So it did not benefit our bottomline but considering the fact that we managed to get our revenues in spite of the strict write off policy we follow, is noteworthy. So, our focus for this financial year is on film production which might bring in revenues for us....

Apart from the films, Tips would be launching two or three non film albums this year with Indian as well as Pakistani singers.
