MUMBAI: In a bid to express displeasure over American pop band Backstreet Boys performing in India, an Indian metal fan allegedly hacked the official website of DNA Networks' annual music fest on 1 February 2010. The hacker, identified by his handle as "An Indian Metal Head" criticised the promoters for selling out and booking a washed out pop act

Bangalore based live music organizers DNA Networks, who are bringing down the pop group Backstreet Boys to perform at the Rock in India fest were in for a rude shock. The website was pulled down as soon as it was brought to their notice. A spokesperson from DNA networks told radioandmusic.com that "corrective" measures are being taken on the hacking issue, but refused to divulge anything further

Unlike the past two years, when the promoters had brought down heavy metal acts like Megadeth, Machine Head and Iron Mainden to perform at Rock in India, this year's headlining act, reportedly caused a stir among the metal fans as it was a pop act. Incidentally an i-petition was also initiated to stop the band from performing.

To explain their stance on bringing down a pop act this time, DNA Networks had earlier released an official statement that said, " There has been a long-standing request from many music fans to our website that they would like to see mainstream music and also classic rock... Rock in India is a 'music' festival and the headliners have already been announced. Rock in India does not mean the 'genre' rock only. Being a fan you have right to an opinion. Being a promoter no artist is big or small to us. All artists are respected equally and not looked down upon just because they are a pop artist! We respect their music!," it added

Besides BSB, Richard Marx and Prime Cirle are also slated to perform on the concert that is scheduled for February 20 (Delhi) and February 22 (Bangalore).
