Siddharth Mahadevan is ardent fan of Sunidhi Chauhan

MUMBAI: After crooning hit numbers like 'Malang', 'Zinda' and 'Hula Re' singer Siddharth Mahadevan has rendered his vocals for the song 'Bol Beliya' for the film 'Kill Dil'. The music of the film is composed by the trio music composer Shankar Ehsaan Loy (SEL) and is directed by Shaad Ali.

'Bol Beliya' is a song which will feature Govinda who is playing the negative role in the film. Talking about the song, Mahadevan said, “When I went to the studio I was told that song will be filmed on Govinda uncle. Now, the major cause of my worry was I am a 21 year old and how would my voice suit him who is so much senior to me. It was the director Shaad Ali, who assured that my voice would suit the character. Citing an example of my father, he said even Shankar rendered his vocals for Amitabh Bachchan for 'Jhoom Barabar Jhoom'. Thus, I was asked to sing in a very open and grungy tone which worked out.”

Mahadevan recorded the song in the presence of Padma Bhushan winning lyricist Gulzar. Mahadevan recalls the proud moment when he was hugged by the renowned lyricist, for his singing skills. “This is one moment which I will never forget,” he stated.

Explaining the challenge he faced for the song, he said, “I am an ardent fan of Sunidhi Chauhan, who had already sung the track and now, I had to match up to her standards. This was a big challenge for me.”

When asked about his relationship with his father Shankar Mahadevan, Siddharth revealed, “In the studio he is music composer and I am an artiste. There is a bit of a comfort level, but knowing my potential, he will not refrain from pushing me.”

According to Siddharth, he sings the tracks composed only by SEL because the voice matches the character and not because he is Shankar Mahadevan's son. “There is a lot of thought process that goes behind a song. You have Shankar Ehsaan Loy as three different people, you have the director, producer, creative team and others whom have to finalise the voice that goes behind the song. So if I croon a number it is only and only because the people find my voice good enough,” he concluded.

The soundtrack comprises of eight tracks which released last week. The film is slated to
release on 14 November, 2014.
