Shujaat Hussain Khan debuts as Bollywood composer

MUMBAI: Renowed Sitar player and grammy nominated artist Shujaat Hussain Khan performed at the music launch of Mr. Singh and Mrs. Mehta written and directed by Pravesh Bharadwaj.

With this, Khan becomes one of the few noted classical musicians like Shiv Kumar Sharma and Hariprasad Chaurasia to foray into Bollywood.

Speaking on his debut, he said, "People have been approcahing me to compose, but they expected me to compose item numbers, without having respect for the kind of music I am known for."

The short performance at the music launch clearly gave an idea about the feel of the film's music, which (not surprisingly) was truly melodious compared to the kind of pacy music that has been coming off late - those who love soft ghazal like melodies will love it the most.

Interestingly, Khan has also sung the track Aye Khuda on this album. Ustad Shaujaat Khan was joined by his his son Azaan Khan on guitars for this intimate performance.

Singers like Shreya Ghoshal, KK, Richa Sharma and Roop Kumar Rathod are also singing on the album, he told the media.
