Shreya, Soham bag honours at Star Screen awards

Mumbai: The first of the clutch of film awards this year is out, and the music honours have staked their claim in the spotlight.

The results of Nokia Star Screen Awards, out recently, have picked out the best of the lot, some of these reserved for that gem of 2007, Taare Zameen Par, which bagged six categories in all.

The awards for Best Music and Best Background Music were held by A R Rahman. The most meaningful song of the year, penned by Prasoon Joshi, got him the Best Lyricist award. Shreya Ghoshal and Soham Chakraborty were pronounced as the Best Female and Male Singer. Shreya got the award for Barso Re Megha (Guru) and Soham for Inn Dino (Life in A Metro).

Let's talk about the other good music of the year and people who were nominated:

Shankaar Ehsaan Loy, got nominations in the Best Music and Best Background Music category. Even though they couldn't secure the top position they catapulted their worth with impressive music. Their films this year included:
Salaam-e-ishq
Jhoom Barabar Jhoom
Johnny Gaddaar
Heyy Baby
Taare Zameen Par

Other finalists for Best Music include:
Monty Sharma (Saawariya), Pritam (Life in A Metro)
And for Background Music:
Raju Singh (Life in A Metro), Salim-Sulaiman (Chak De! India), Vishal-Shekhar (Om Shanti Om)

For the content of the songs, i.e lyrics, the battle was fought between:
Gulzar (Bol na halke halke- Jhoom Barabar Jhoom)
Sameer (Jab se tere naina- Saawariya)
Sayeed Quadri (Inn dinnon- Life in A Metro)
Prasoon Joshi (Taare zameen par- Taare Zameen Par)

Best Playback Singer Male:
KK (Aankhon mein teri- Om Shanti Om)
Shaan (Jab se tere naina- Saawariya)
Shankar Mahadevan (For both Maa and Taare zameen par from Taare Zameen Par)

Best Playback Singer Female:
Chinmayee (Tere bina- Guru)
Shreya Ghosahal (Yeh ishq haye- Jab We Met and Barso re megha megha- Guru)
Sunidhi Chauhan (Sajna di vari vari- Honeymoon Travels)

Rahman has bagged 13 Star Screen Awards for Best Background Music, and this time it was his consecutive victory in the same category.
There have also been some films with a good music score, which have missed out this time, but would definitely deserve a mention at subsequent events.

The singing tara of the year- Soham, is the latest addition into the industry. His articulation and singing skills are being acclaimed by one and all, with his Dil Laga Na (Dhoom 2) being lapped up by the masses. The man finally made it after five long years of struggle. His mentor Pritam Chakraborty was nominated for the Best Music category (Life in A Metro) but lost to AR Rahman (Guru).
