MUMBAI: Shibani Kashyap has struck a deal with networking site, ibibo.com to launch her single track online with her band Sojourn.
Says Kashyap, There are no physical sales; so there is no point in investing in a non- film album. The Internet seems to be a better place with net savvy audiences picking songs online.... The singer would be getting a share of the digital downloads from ibibo.com.
It is a romantic number, so we would be launching it in February next year, the month of love!... Kashyap further complains that televison music channels, which used to air non film album videos, are no longer interested in playing such music. While launching an album, there is a lot of investment that goes in the making of the videos and the music channels are not interested in playing these numbers. It is a vicious cycle where the channels claim their research shows no takers for independent music."
Kashyap had recently launched a track, �Alvida' as a tribute to the lives lost in Mumbai terror attacks. Lyricist Virag Mishra has penned the lyrics of this emotional track. Says the musician, It is just a way to show our solidarity over what happened in Mumbai recently and we want to convey that we must let go the past and move on. It suggests that we put ourselves together and wake up to a new tomorrow....
The track is exclusively on air on Red FM at the moment and would go on air on Big FM from the coming week.
Non-film music needs a boost to be revived from being overshadowed by larger than life Bollywood. So, if channels do not support non-film music, artists have to turn to internet and radio. There are some songs like �Bandya' from the Pakistani movie Khuda ke Liye which was a hit because it was hammered into listeners' consciousness by radio....
Shibani, who started her journey in Bollywood by composing singles like Sajna aa bhi ja for Waisa bhi hota hai- II, title track for Zinda and the more recent title track for Maharathi, is composing full tracks for some films.
She has composed all songs for �Osama' to be directed by Faisal Saif. She has also being signed by a Los Angeles based production house, Golden Gate Studios to sing songs and compose three numbers for 'Blood Money Trail'. The movie is a dark movie based on financial terrorism and will have both Indian and international star cast including Harsh Chayya, Rajat Kapoor among others.
Talking about composing entire tracks now, Kashyap says, It has been a gradual journey for me in Bollywood and my compositions have improved with every film. It has been an enriching experience for me as a music composer. It is the best time to be in the music industry, where there are so many new voices being experimented and producers also willing to experiment with the music....
Continuing here long collaboration with Sanjay Gupta in his earlier movies like Zinda, Woodstock Villa etc., shibani would be composing for Gupta's next, �Acid Factory'. Also lined up is �The great Indian Butterfly', a film by Sarthak Dasgupta under the White Feature films banner. She has also composed for Aditya Bhattacharya's Dubai Return staring Irfan Khan, Vijay Maurya, Divya Dutta among others.
Shibani along with her band, Sojourn would be performing in Dubai on 31 December with singers Usha Uttap and Adnan Sami. Also lined up is a musical event at Vivekanand Asharm in New York where the band would be performing fusion of Indian and western music.
Sojourn, the recently formed band with Shibani as the lead vocalist is an eclectic mix of musicians who do a lot of original songs both in English and Hindi apart from covers.
